Description
RCA DTC100 DirecTV Satellite receiver with r5000HD recording mod from NextcomWireless I'm selling my RCA DTC100 receiver that has been modified to record direct, unmodified, un-DRMed Transport Streams (.ts files) of any thing you can watch on the box, including ATSC over-the-air HD broadcasts (HD and digital TV that you get over an antenna), NTSC over-the-air SD content, all MPEG-2 DirecTV content, and all SD DirecTV content to a Windows or Linux computer. It is not able to record DirecTV MPEG-4 HD content. This is the only device that allows you to record HD content directly to your computer from satellite. Nextcom Wireless Homepage You should be able to record all regular SD DirecTV channels for the foreseeable future, and all SD Over The Air (antenna) digital channels essentially forever. You should also be able to receive and record the following channels in HD: *any HD channel you receive OTA (via an antenna) such as: ABC-HD CBS-HD NBC-HD FOX-HD CW-HD UNI-HD PBS-HD *The following DirecTV HD channels numbered in the 70s should be available for a long time: (these are now simulcast in MPEG-4 on higher channels, but will remain on these channels in MPEG-2 for a long while) 70 - HBO-HD (if you subscribe to HBO and the "HD Access" package) 71 - Showtime-HD (if you subscribe to Showtime and the "HD Access" package) 72 - ESPN2-HD 73 - ESPN-HD 74 - Universal-HD (part of the "HD Extra" package...) 75 - TNT-HD 76 - HD Theater 78 - HDNet Movies (part of the "HD Extra" package...) 79 - HDNet Basically, you'll be able to watch and record ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, HD Theater, HDNet, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, The CW, PBS, HBO and Showtime, and any other local station you receive in HD over your antenna. You will NOT be able to watch or record MPEG-4 HD channels, ie. any DirecTV HD channel numbered over 80. All SD channels will work fine, either OTA or via DirecTV. The DTC100 with r5000HD mod supports SageTV and Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) for XP or Vista, and it also works with MythTV and Linux now, thanks to Alan Nisota's excellent patch here: Patch to enable r5000 support in MythTV (Don't be alarmed that it says Dish Networks only, as it supports DirectTV as of Rev. 4.) It also works with the TitanTV or Zap2it program guides for program scheduling. You can use up to four boxes on the same computer, for recording 4 simultaneous HD or SD streams from multiple providers. You can even mix Over The Air, DirecTV, Dish Networks, and Cable recording if you have multiple boxes. Personally, I suggest using a MythTV box as a backend, and XBMC Media Center (formerly XBox Media Center) as your frontend. XBMC now works on the Xbox, Windows, Linux, and MacOS, and there is decent native support for MythTV (work in progress) and also an excellent Python script for it. XBMC Media Center Homepage This allows you to watch, record, and timeshift live TV in a portable format that you can do with as you please. Shipping is included if you pay my asking price, otherwise $35. This thing is BIG and Heavy. The modification alone is $375, if you already own this box. The only problem is that the remote doesn't work properly (it was broken when I got it), but it works fine with my Universal Home Theater remote, and should work with any universal remote that can be programmed for RCA STBs. Replacements can be had on eBay for around $30 brand new. So far, I've only been using it for Over The Air ATSC HD, and the tuning is excellent. It picks up several channels that my Samsung HD tuner couldn't tune. Here are some specs on the receiver: *Dolby digital output via toslink (optical) spdif *VGA output for HD video (see note below) *Receive digital programming and view it in analog format or on an analog TV via S-Video or Composite cables (so your old TV is ready for the digital switch-over) *Dimensions- Approx. 16.5" x 15" x 3.25" (BIG!) *Weight- Approx. 15 lbs. (Heavy!) ... or "solid" Thanks for looking, Wes **Note: This DOES NOT have component or DVI/HDMI outputs, so you either need to have a 15-pin VGA d-sub input (the blue connector in the picture) or RGBHV inputs on your TV, or your "component" inputs must support or RGB with "Sync on Green" (see your manual) in order to view the HD output. If you don't have these, you'll need to buy an RGB -> component converter. I can provide you with a home-made DB-15 (vga) to RCA RGBHV cable if you wish. Just let me know.
