Description
The Collins Radio Gold Dust Twins KWS-1 (serial number 96) including T/R Coaxial Switch/w Mute Contacts, switch wiring, and receiver mute wiring, original matching serial number factory wood shipping crate for the KWS-1 power supply cabinet, original owners manual and documentation. Approximately 1500 of these transmitters were manufactured. Many were sold to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) for communicating with the bombers. Only well healed amateur radio operators could afford the hefty price tag in the 1950's, hence the nickname Gold Dust Twins, because it took a large bag of Gold Dust to purchase this transmitter and its matching receiver (75A-4). This transmitter and its mated 75A-4 receiver (serial number is 528) where originally purchased in the 1950s by a Georgia Ham Radio Operator. This set is complete with meticulous owner's documentation and even a picture of the original owner operating the equipment. The matching documentation, together with the unusual condition of the equipment, makes this GOLD DUST TWIN pair even more valuable. Also included is the 312-A1 speaker console meticulously converted to a SC-101 matching Station Console by K0BS, Butch Schartau. All of the equipment is pristine inside and out. The 75A-4 has the original Collins standard 3 filters installed. Other items included are 2 original packaged final tubes (sealed cans) and the Selsyn that matches the rotator direction indicator allowing the direction indicator to function. This equipment set came from several pieces of equipment I purchased from Peter C. Zilliox Secretary of the Collins Collectors Association when he moved from Dallas to California. This equipment is all original without any modifications. The ownership of this equipment can be tracked from the original purchase. The equipment is located in Dallas for pickup only (special arrangements OK). This equipment is probably appreciating more than your return on a bank CD. Unlike the stock market the value will continue to increase. The equipment is way above average and is priced accordingly. Comment on the pictures. The crinkle paint used by Collins Radio on the A-Line radios leaves some reflective artifacts. Please do not interpret this to indicate chips or scratches. This equipment is pristine for it’s age. If there is an area of concern I will take extra pictures if needed. Disclaimer: The pictures of the item for auction are actual pictures of the item. It is not an exact duplicate with all the internal wiring, exact same switches, etc.
