Description
Greetings. Up for your consideration is a beautiful Collins R-389 receiver. I bought this radio from Mr. Rick Mish about 5 years ago. It is Completely restored, re manufactured and aligned. As most of you know this is a VLF receiver that covers 15 KC through 1500 KC. It uses a motor to add as a tuning aid. Everything on this radio has been gone through by Mr. Mish and the radio is very sensitive. I have only put a few hours on the radio since receiving it as I do not have an adequate antenna for VLF work.  I have more than 26 Collins R390xx radios and plan to sell most of them. I plan to retire next year and move and I cant take the radio collection with me. This radio is fully functional. The only flaws are there is some minor touch up work on the front panel. I took a close up shot to show in detail. The volume control is a little scratchy but working fine. The radio is missing an internal cover. The top and bottom covers are included. I have read there were less than 800 of these radios made. This one is number 427. I would give this radio a 97%. It is very collectible, very rare and fully functional. I have no manual. The power cord is included. I almost forgot to mention the audio is warm and rich as a vintage tube radio should sound. This radio uses 36 vacuum tubes and is listed as VERY SCARCE in Ostermans receiver book.  Though fully functional and honestly described, I can offer no warranty as this radio is over 50 years old. There will be no refunds offered on this item. Please see my feedback. It is 100%  This radio will be professionally packed at the UPS store here in town. I was given an estimate of $63.00 for double boxing with foam and bubble wrap to protect the radio in transit. This charge will be paid by the winner along with the UPS shipping charge which will be calculated at the end of the auction. I will only charge actual shipping and packaging cost. Nothing more. Insurance is mandatory.  I will only accept Pay Pal,  Certified Cashiers checks or U.S. Postal Money Orders. Cash will be accepted by certified, registered mail. Absolutely NO personal checks for this item, sorry. I will be more than happy to have the winner pick the radio up at my home. It would save a bunch of worry on my end about shipping it. I reserve the right to cancel bids for any reason. Please email me if you have excessive negative feedback.  Please feel free to ask questions. Thanks for looking and Good Luck.On Nov-19-08 at 19:08:10 PST, seller added the following information: If the buy it now option is used, I will supply a complete set of new tubes to include the rare 26Z5W's and a 3TF7.On Nov-21-08 at 14:01:14 PST, seller added the following information:  I am very sorry to inconvenience anybody but I reserve the right to block any bidders. I also reserve the right to ship ONLY to North America, and Canada. The Collins R-390, R390-A and R389 are way to heavy to be shipped overseas. The cartons get dropped, thrown, heaved and rolled. Even with professional packing the radios can be easily damaged. I dont want the worry or responsibility of shipping overseas. Adding insurance cant stop the item from being damaged. I have been in the exporting business for almost 30 years and have seen heavy items ruined too many times.  This item will only go USA and Canada. I am sorry.
